Introduction into US Criminal Procedure and Attorney Skills in Criminal Trials
News from Aug 21, 2023
We are pleased to welcome Prof. Frank Bress and Prof. Anna Cominsky from New York Law School again this term.
During the last week of the lecture-free period (09.10.2023 - 13.10.2023), they will again teach the course "Introduction into US Criminal Procedure and Attorney Skills in Criminal Trials".
Here you will not only gain an insight into the American criminal justice system, but also an intensive presentation of defense practice as well as the opportunity to apply the learned "skills" yourself in practically designed practice situations and to try them out together in a relaxed atmosphere.
The course will begin with an "Introduction into American Criminal Justice" in order to create a basis for the rest of the course and to give the participants an insight into the subject matter. The actual program will take place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. At the end there will be an opportunity for discussion or follow-up questions.
The course program will be divided into three units: Information Acquisition Part 1, Information Acquisition Part 2 and Story Telling. Using a sample case, students will be taught skills such as structured and accurate description of crime scenes, efficient and focused witness interviewing, and the impact of "storytelling" for understanding and assessment by listeners.
The course is scheduled from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday.
Approximately 10 students can participate.
If you would like to participate in the course, we ask you to register by 01.09.2022 with a letter of motivation (lawclinic@zedat.fu-berlin.de).
We hope for a great participation on your part and look forward to an interesting event!
