Am 09. Mai 2021, dem Europatag, beginnt die Konferenz zur Zukunft Europas. Bei der Konferenz zur Zukunft Europas handelt es sich um von Bürgerinnen und Bürgern getragene Debatten und Diskussionsreihen, bei denen die Menschen aus ganz Europa ihre Ideen austauschen und unsere gemeinsame Zukunft mitgestalten können. Im Hinblick auf die Konferenz ist die europäische Gesundheitspolitik und ihre Reform im Lichte der Erfahrungen der Corona-Krise ein Thema, das die Bürger beschäftigt. Die Gesundheitspolitik steht aber nur beispielhaft für notwendige Reformen der EU, die zur Verwirklichung europäischer öffentlicher Güter (European Public Goods) notwendig sind. In Bereichen, in den europäisches Handeln einen Mehrwert schafft, sollte die EU daher handlungsfähiger werden, in anderen Bereichen sollte das Subsidiaritätsprinzip ernster genommen werden.

However, health policy is only one example of the necessary EU reforms that are needed to realise European public goods. In areas where European action creates added value, the EU should therefore become more capable of acting; in other areas, the subsidiarity principle should be taken more seriously.
