Heike Krieger is a professor of public law and international law at the Freie Universität Berlin and chair of the DFG-funded research group ‘The International Rule of Law - Rise or Decline?’. She has taught at the Universities of Göttingen, Nottingham, the Centre for Transnational Legal Studies, London and the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, among others. Heike Krieger was a judge at the Constitutional Court of the State of Berlin from 2007 to 2014, a member of the German Council of Science and Humanities (Wissenschaftsrat) from 2014 to 2020 and a Max Planck Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, Heidelberg, from 2017 to 2021. She is Deputy Chair of the German Society of International Law and a member of the DFG Senate and the Holberg Committee. Her research focuses on general international law, international humanitarian law and human rights protection.

Heike Krieger is editor-in-chief of the Yearbook of International Humanitarian Law (T.M.C. Asser Press and Springer). Her publications include the ‘Research Handbook on International Law and Domestic Legal Systems’ (Edward Elgar, 2024; ed. with H. Aust and F. Lange), ‘Tracing Value Change in the International Legal Order - Perspectives from Legal and Political Science’ (Oxford University Press, 2023; ed. with A.
