Sven Höppner ist ausgebildeter Wirtschaftswissenschaftler und Jurist. Er promovierte in Rechtswissenschaften an der Universität Gent. Seine Forschungsgebiete umfassen die Gestaltung von Transaktionen und Institutionen, Vertragstheorie, Auktionen und Verhandlungen, wirtschaftliche Gleichheit, Vertragsrecht, geistiges Eigentum, die ökonomische Analyse des Rechts sowie Recht und Technologie. Sven verwendet experimentelle und quantitative Methoden sowie einige computergestützte Instrumente zur Durchführung seiner Forschung.
