FAQ on the Law Library
The library is open to the study of law and scientific research. In order to use the Literature in the reading rooms no registration or library card is necessary.
In order to take books out of the library a library card is necessary. Registration is possible at any time at the front desk. Do bring a passport and - if possible - a notice of residence in Berlin or Brandenburg.
A library card is necessary for the use of research thin clients in the reading rooms to access data bases, digital resources and the open internet.
Please contact the Front Desk for further information. Special inquiries should be placed Monday to Friday, 8.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m.
Most of the literature in the reading rooms is to be used in the reading rooms (Präsenzbestand).
Some books may be borrowed to scientists of our Law School (Ausliehe an wiss. Pers.). Students of the Freie Universität Berlin may borrow these books over holidays and other closing days.
Books from the book repository of the Law Library in the basement may be borrowed by any user who is resident in Berlin or Brandenburg at any time.
In order to borrow books from the Law Library, a library user card of the Freie Universität Berlin or a student registration card is necessary. You will receive a new library card immediately after application. Please ask the Front Desk for help.
